Wow. Super strong story...well done.

For the interviews, I would have liked to have seen some additional tight shots. I love your initial framing and lighting, I would just like to see some secondary really tight shots and see every line on the subjects face, especially when the emotion starts to peak.
Also, at about 6:20 in mom's interview there's a jump cut.
Really well done.

Hi Arnold,

Thanks for taking the time to watch and review the Wes video.

You're totally spot on about additional tight shots on the interviews for the sake of visual variety

I usually do a two camera shoot for my interviews (one tight, one wide)
In this case I had less than 1 hour to shoot the interviews of the three people in this piece add still shoot b-roll during the basketball game, very fluid and fast working environment for sure.

The  lights I used were the Litepanels 1X1's which throw off really nice light.

Yeah that jump cut at 6:20 bothered me as well. When I was doing this in Final Cut I didn't want to take a chance and cover that jump cut with some b-roll because the mom was in the middle of a moment with her story and I thought it would ruin that emotional moment.

This was the second video about Wes, For some perspective if you are interested here is a link to the 1st that I had shot and edited in March of 2011.  http://bcove.me/6jwc4wyd

Thanks again Arnold for the review.  Take care

Eric

Hi Eric,

Even more impressive knowing that you had little time to shoot this.
Great piece of daily work.

Yeah man it was good at the end of the night between the interviews, b-roll before, during and after the basketball game to have a nice cold beer, a late dinner then crash hard on the pillow at the hotel. LOL!!
